She chuckled as she watched Pallaton play in the flowers and jump around his liitle legs gave away the reason for his speed as he ran around.She looked at him after he was fightened by the deer then her smile immeadiatly went away when Blitz was next to them.She didn't answer him since Pallaton answered she was proud of him for even speaking to him.She glanced at Blitz then grazed she swished her tail making a breeze for Pallaton,it was a bit humid outside once it was noon.She shook her mane then began to doze as she stood.She awoke at dusk again and grazed feeding her realitivly small/skinny body.She stomped her feet to get bugs that bit her off they were painful most of the time but she would very rarely get them off before they bit.She looked at the clolrful sky once more and watched the black clouds float lazily into the sunset.

* Pallaton's words met his ears, but duchess did not speak. He wondered why she was still bitter with him after all this time. He had been kind to her, not useing force with her at all. he let her do her own thing. What more could she want. He lifted his head and watched as the mare and foal moved around the feild. He dozed off but still kept an ear out for them and the rest of the herd. Day was the only time he slept, night was when he really had to protect them from other creatures. He lifted his head around dusk and began to strech his legs out. He let out a whinnie to them leting them know he was checking the boarders. Pallaton By this time of night He was dead tired. He walked slowly alongside his mother, and did not ask to many questions. but one had been naging on his mind for a while now and he wanted to find out an answer. "Mommy?" he said with a quizzical expression. "Why dont you talk to daddy?" he said again. He had wondered why they never touched or got anywhere near eachother. it seemed to him that he was the only connecting factor between them. He paused and then looked up at her. |

She was just as tired at her foal was a very tiring day for both of them filled with happiness,playing,well then.......Blitz.She sighed and grazed and looks up at him when he said ' Mommy ' "Yes darling?" she looked at him stunned after she head his words "Well um Mommy just isn't happy with daddy right now."she knew he would ask why "Because.....daddy hurt mommy a long time ago."she trembled as she spoke the painful words to her own son.She figured that Blitz was somewhere around listening to them have their little chat together which mad her very egar to move away from this spot as she grazed she moved from one spot to another and they were 2 of the horses who got shoved to the boarder of the herd to sleep tonight it was cold along the edge and unprotected.She looked around to be sure everything was safe before she let Pallaton go to sleep everything seemed to be good so she whispered "Sleep my child."she smiled and watched him doze off into a deep sleep.She stayed awake they had never been on the boarder of the herd at night before it was very well......irritating that a mother and foal would get shoved out here alone.She sighed she knew she wouldn't be getting and sleep tonight she had to watch Pallaton he was no trouble for her.

Blitz * Blitz watched as all of the herd crouded together to sleep that night. It was cold on this particular night and he really wanted to stay out here. He mostly sleeps during the day when it is safer, and the mares are awake. He stays awake at night to protect them. He just so happened to notice that Duchess and Pallaton were on the fringes of the herd tonight. She looked uneasy as the foal fell to rest. She would not sleep and he knew it. He moved closer to them, makeing his figure appear out of the darkness. His blue hued frame was briliant agenst the moonlight. He moved forward to duchess who was lyeing on the ground beside his foal. "Sleep now Duchess, I have everything under control" he spoke in a hushed tone. He layed his body down beside hers, leting his body heat warm her. He kept his head up so as to watch the rest of the herd as well. He wanted to show her kindness, even if she did not want it. He was the leader, and it was almost time for him to grow out of his colt hood days and be the lead that he was. He was moving up in his life, and finaly realizing that respect was earned and not something to be taken lightly. If he ever wanted respect from his herd, he would have to show them that he was worthy, even in his high rank. He looked at his son, the soul heir to the herd, he was the first, but not the last. Only time would tell if he would actualy inherit it someday. |

She wiped her emotions off her face as soon as Blitz appeared...again.She looked at him then layed her head over Pallaton protecting him and keeping him warm.She eventually fell asleep...but she felt awkward having Blitz next to her she wanted to get away so much but it was cold and she was tired,it wouldn't hurt for her to be by him for a few hours.
**Morning had arrived and she woke up,her and Pallaton got up before Blitz did...leaving him where they were laying they were on the other side of the herd out of Blitz's sight grazing she nuzzled Pallaton encouraging him it was ok to play or do what he wanted he was her only joy here,he was the only thing that made her happy at the time...well he would always make her happy in good times and bad.She kept a close eye on him as she grazed to make sure he didn't go to far away from her,he was very good about not going far from her.She continued to graze and watch Pallaton.

Blitz * He had just barely fallen asleep when morning had come. As most of the herd got up to leave the confort of the caves he stayed behind for a while. Geting just alittle sleep before actualy going out for his grazeing as well. He was not surprised wen he did awake to find Duchess had gone. And so had the little one. He was not to be discouraged though. He lifted himself from the floor and made his way outside, his blue hued pelt was very bright in the day light. He took a few steps outside and counted the mares, makeing sure they were all there. and they were. He made his way down to the creekside and drew in several heavy mouthfuls. The icy liquid hit his stomach hard. He lifted his head and watched his little one playing. He really was a sight to see and his name fit him well, He was a fireball. Pallaton * He danced in the bright sunlight and pranced around his mother. Offten thinking of what his father had done to hurt his mother. He wished he was old enough to know. He sighed and then ran across the feild to his mother. He reared up in play and then took off again in the opposite direction. He was geting stronger by the day and that made him happy. Although he for some reason always was unhappy. He was torn between his fathers deep and dark past and his mothers light and airy personality. It was a stange feeling to be torn, but he was a foal yet, so who knew what would happen. |

Duchess
She laughed as she watched Pallaton play and prance all over the place it was a very good sight to see indeed.She turned when she saw Blitz at the creekside just on the other side of Pallaton's playing area,she slowly made her way closer to Pallaton and nudged him away from this spot.she looked at Pallaton and said "You are very hyper today aren't you son?"she said with a light chuckle and licked his forelock.She layed in the grass in a patch of yellow,purple.red,orange,and pink wildflowers,she smiled at Pallaton again thinking of how much of her life he made happier.
